By Marilyn Trout | May 02, 2013
Cost-per-Use I came across an article by Brendan Leonard who has a pithy blog about “the relentless pursuit of the everyman's, and every woman's, adventure.” Whether planned or spontaneous, bucket list or daily grind, I must admit this “pursuit of adventure” runs deep within every fiber of my being....

By Peg Labiuk | March 22, 2013
Shoulder Can you tell me how to avoid shoulder pain while riding, especially longer rides? The pain is normally between my shoulder blades and sometimes really burns. I've been fitted for my bike and have been told I have a good riding posture/form. I'm relaxed and don't seem to be tensed....

Changing Gears with Masters World Champion Annette Williams

Changing I first 'met' Annette on her cycling resume while sizing up our competition for the 2012 Masters National Track Championships. Yikes. She made good on my impression & annihilated us all taking every event that she entered. Months later at the World Championships in Manchester, she added another rainbow jersey to her collection. Now I am wondering about the Sauna or the Steam Room. Would they fall into the same category as the hot tub? Have athletes used them to any advantage? Your thoughts?...

Retooling The key to good coaching, actually key to life too, goes far beyond knowledge. Adding wisdom and experience to the scientific foundation of the training program takes it to a whole new level, especially when “life” enters the equation. Certainly, this may be the most difficult or delicate part of the mix to work through since “life” is synonymous with “change.” ...

By Marilyn Trout | February 19, 2013
Shifting Recently, I responded to an athlete who met up with an untimely cold just before heading down to Louisville, Kentucky for the 2013 World Masters Cyclocross Championships. Colin Funk spent most of his life in a pair of running shoes until his early forties when he swapped them out for some pedals. When he was 16, he won the 1500 metres at the Ontario Provincial Championships and now meets with success again with his road and cyclocross bikes in Master C 50-59 age group....
