This design was inspired by the bike race. The main colors represent the 4 leaders' jerseys awarded in the contest. Yellow is for the overall race or general classification leader. Green is for the best sprinter or points classification leader. Red polka dots are for the best climber or king of the mountains leader. White is for the best young rider leader.

The iconic Eifel tower adorns the front to recall the finish of the race in Paris. The sides are red. white, and blue stripes like the tri-color of the French flag. The shoulders include a stylized time trial bike in profile to acknowledge the importance of the time trial discipline in the race.

The back includes an outline of the map of France and the pocket decoration lists many of the names of the legendary climbs in the Alps, Ardennes, Massif Central, and Pyrenees.
