A Worthy Ideal: Excellence, Friendship and Respect

Comments
By Marilyn Trout / Erin Mirabella | January 25, 2013
While reading through our newspaper the other day, I came across a letter to the editor from a distinguished cyclist with numerous titles from National Championships to 2-time Olympian. Erin Mirabella, who lives up the pass in Woodland Park, shared some personal thoughts about the drug wars in cycling resulting in someone’s brainwave idea of removing cycling from the Olympics....

Climbing With Asthma

Comments
By Peg Labiuk | January 21, 2013
I have diminished lung capacity due to childhood asthma. It isn't a problem most of the time, but I really feel it on the hills and need a few minutes of recovery after each climb. What advice do you have to help build hill stamina? Should I do more hills, interval hills? I feel like my lungs are holding the rest of my body back! I've used inhalers but find that just makes me shaky with exceedingly dry mouth....

Never Too Old to Shift Gears: World Champion Carl Grove

Comments
By Marilyn Trout | January 14, 2013
In the late 60s, I came back to Elkhart, Indiana and rediscovered my Schwinn Super Sport. I met up with some young cyclists, ages 17 to 22, as I was the old guy in my 40s, and went at it tooth and nail not knowing anything about training methods. Two rules became very important to me then and, throughout the years, have become even more important. They are the reasons I give to the question, How do you manage to ride like you do at an advanced age?...

Loss of Motivation

Comments
By Peg Labiuk | January 09, 2013
Lately, I've been so lazy about training, riding, going hard, etc... I've really backed off hard, multi-day training. I commute to work 20 miles, 5 days a week, ride long (70 to 100) on Saturdays, take Sunday off and normally do hard training on Tuesdays. Love my team and my cycling buddies, but any hard training rides really don't excite me lately. Even though I still feel strong, I have to force myself to ride. I can't seem to get motivated. ...

Hip Tightness, Imbalance Test

Comments
By Marilyn Trout and Leslee Schenk-Trczinski | January 03, 2013
The hips are considered the junk drawer of the body. We hold so much there, not just physical tension, overuse stress, grip and tightness. But also emotionally, we 'store' things in the hip and low abdomen region to bury it from being processed, worked through, released. Take the hip test to see how imbalanced or tight your hip, ham, butt, leg areas are. Then, starting the New Year, get going on working through the imbalance, the structural mal-alignment and CLEAN OUT THE JUNK!! ...

S*** Cyclists Say

Comments

People For Bikes posted this hilarious video, and we just had to share it with our fans. Even though we're cyclists ourselves and are certainly guilty of some of these one-liners, we couldn't stop laughing! Plus it's from a great organization whose goal is to unite a million voices to improve the future of biking. ...
